Denominational Ministries
Global Ministries
Since its earliest days the denomination has been involved in missions sending its first missionary to Egypt in 1875. ARP’s are now serving in evangelism, planting new churches, medical missions, theological education and other ministries. These are ARP missionaries in Mexico and Pakistan, where independent Synods now exist; in Berlin, in Moscow, in Istanbul
and also to Persian-speaking people around the world.
We minister in Asia through our participation in Evangelism Explosion, and also through Cooperative Agreements, in Brazil, Korea and Spain. Foreign missions are an integral part of
the identity of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Synod.
Institutions
The ARP denomination sponsors a liberal arts college and a theological seminary conforming to the reformed faith, and operates a conference center in a beautiful setting in the mountains of western North Carolina. The denominational institutions also include a number of retirement
centers.
-
Erskine College – Located in Due West in northwestern South Carolina, Erskine College is the oldest denominational college in the state. Founded in 1839, it is a coeducational college of liberal arts accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The college has an enrollment of over 500 students maintaining a superior professor/student ratio in a Christian environment.
-
Erskine Theological Seminary – Founded in 1837, Erskine Theological Seminary is located on the same campus as Erskine College. The seminary is fully accredited and represents the conservative tradition of Reformed Protestantism, subscribing to the great principles of the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.
-
Bonclarken – Located in historic Flat Rock, NC, the Bonclarken Assembly grounds provide a camp and conference center for the denomination. Each year thousands of people take part in the spectrum of activities designed to fully develop each individual. The chapel and conference buildings are surrounded by a hotel, motel, apartments, swimming pool, lakes and other recreational facilities. Bonclarken is four miles from Hendersonville, NC.
North American Ministries
-
Church Extension – Our denomination has always realized that the Great Commission to spread the Gospel depends primarily on strong local bodies of believers. To that end, the Board of Church Extension helps our Presbyteries introduce people to Jesus Christ by planting new churches and renewing existing ones. About 82% of our churches at one time or another have been supported both with funding and direction through the ministry of Church Extension.
Church Extension has a four-fold mission: to plant new churches in the United States and Canada; to recruit and train men to plant these churches; to renew existing churches by developing and conducting programs of renewal; and to introduce people to Jesus Christ by promoting programs of evangelism.
-
Retirement Centers – The ARP denomination maintains four retirement centers located in Brighton, TN; Gastonia, NC; Spartanburg and Due West, SC. These facilities provide a loving and caring environment where people feel the understanding of fellow Christians. A variety of usage plans are available to meet the needs of individuals. The facilities provide the most modern conveniences and up-to-date care available.
-
Christian Education – Christian Education is the agency authorized by the General Synod to plan, organize, administer and promote the teaching ministry of God in Christ by the power of the Spirit and through the General Synod. Christian Education ministers in relation to the Presbyteries and congregations and in cooperation with the other boards and committees of the Synod.
-
Publications – The ARP, our monthly magazine, informs readers of all phases of the work of our denomination and assists us to grow in our Christian experience. Faith and Practice, our theological journal, explores in depth one topic in each issue. Other publications are distributed by various boards and agencies to communicate with special audiences for educational, informational and inspirational purposes.
Multi-Cultural Ministries
The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church ministry crosses cultural boundaries at home as well as overseas. The denomination is planting Korean, Hispanic, Arabic, Persian and West Indian churches in the United States and Canada.
